Ingredients
- 4 large sweet apples (e.g., Jonagold or Elstar)
- 1 sheet of ready-rolled puff pastry
- 4 tbsp light brown sugar
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- 4 small cubes of butter (approx. 1 tsp each)
- 1 egg (for brushing)
- Optional: raisins or chopped nuts
Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 200°C (fan 180°C).
- Line a baking tray with parchment paper.
- Peel the apples and remove the cores using an apple corer, keeping the apples whole.
- Mix the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.
- Place a small cube of butter inside each apple.
- Fill the core with the cinnamon-sugar mixture. Add raisins or nuts for extra flavour, if desired.
- Cut the puff pastry into four equal squares.
- Place an apple in the centre of each square.
- Fold the corners of the pastry up and pinch them together at the top to fully enclose the apple.
- Beat the egg and brush it over the pastry for a golden finish.
- Optionally, sprinkle with some extra cinnamon sugar.
- Bake the apples in the oven for 20–25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden and crisp.
- Let the apples cool for 5 minutes before serving. Delicious with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream!
Tip: Use cinnamon sticks as a festive garnish. No brown sugar? Swap it for white sugar with a drizzle of honey.
Enjoy!
